A friend told me she believes that things land where they should. I hope that my book lands in the hands of women who may benefit from it, who want to go on their own journeys of self-discovery, using their experience of illness as a guide to inner wisdom.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer 27 years ago, and I know how life-shattering it can be. In my book, “Breast Cancer: A Soul Journey,” I use my experience of the illness to examine some of the lessons that can be learned from it. Any cancer, any illness, any life crisis can lead to such an exploration.
This book is not for everyone. Some women feel that, for them, the best way to live with breast cancer is to get past it and not look back. But for women who feel that they want to look beneath the literal concerns of breast cancer, this book demonstrates ways of examining one’s life, beliefs, attitudes, priorities, options.
As a psychotherapist and Jungian analyst, I explore what lies beneath the surface of things. In this book, I use my dreams, dialogues with inner figures, poetry, drawing, and sand tray work as some of the ways of looking more intensely and profoundly at oneself, to become more fully and authentically oneself.
For me, breast cancer became a way of deepening into questions of psychological and spiritual significance. And it led me, ultimately, to find greater meaning, creativity, and joy in life.
I look forward to sharing that journey with you.
